Caffeine Pouches, Explained

A caffeine pouch is a small fiber pouch containing caffeine, flavor, and often vitamins or other actives. You place it between your lip and gum. Recommended use time and absorption claims vary by brand, so check the can. The format comes from Swedish snus and modern nicotine pouches, but caffeine pouches contain no nicotine or tobacco.

For comparison, Mayo Clinic lists 96 mg for an 8 oz cup of brewed coffee. The FDA cites 400 mg/day as not generally associated with negative effects in healthy adults (FDA).
How they're regulated
There are no pouch-specific federal rules. The FDA treats them as dietary supplements or conventional foods depending on ingredients and marketing, and there is no federal minimum age to buy them (NBC News; Telegram & Gazette).
FAQ
How long do caffeine pouches last? It varies by brand; check the can. Users commonly report flavor fading after about 15–20 minutes (aggregated Reddit reports). Do they work faster than coffee? Brands claim faster absorption through the mouth lining. That's plausible based on caffeine gum research, but we found no published pharmacokinetic study on caffeine pouches specifically.
