Scoring System

The Five Scoring Criteria

Every product on Evident Reviews — across supplements, sleep products, devices, skincare, dental, and peptides — is scored on the same five criteria used on Best Mouth Tape: Material Safety (25%), Trust & Reputation (20%), Value & Policy (15%), Features (15%), and Firsthand Testing (25%). The checks inside each criterion are adapted to the category. The weights are the same. The overall score is the weighted result, not a sixth criterion.

Material Safety

25%

What is actually in the product? For supplements: ingredient sourcing, third-party testing (NSF, Informed Sport), heavy metals, label accuracy. For devices: build quality, certifications (FDA clearance, IEC/CE), electrical safety. For mouth tape: adhesive ingredients, published testing (ISO 10993, biocompatibility), PFAS testing. Weighted heaviest because these products go on or in your body.

Trust & Reputation

20%

What the brand can show. Peer-reviewed studies, third-party lab results, customer review patterns (Amazon, Trustpilot), BBB record, and regulatory history. We look for what the brand can prove, not what it claims.

Value & Policy

15%

Cost per use vs. quality delivered, return policy length and terms, subscription practices, and guarantee claims. Premium pricing is not penalized if the formulation, testing, and transparency justify it.

Features

15%

Category-specific product features. For supplements: dose form and delivery. For devices: the specs that change daily use. For mouth tape: manufacturing origin, beard fit, CPAP notes, and vents.

Firsthand Testing

25%

Hands-on notes when we have them: comfort, ease of use, taste or texture, noise, and whether we would use it again. A missing firsthand score is shown as not tested. It is not filled in.

Testing Process

Our Testing Process

Every review on Evident Reviews follows the same six-step process. We buy at full retail first, then run hands-on multi-tester trials — and lab checks when we commission them.

1
Sourcing

We buy every product at full retail price from the same channels a normal customer would (Amazon, brand site, retail stores). We do not accept free samples from brands. For products from brands we own (currently Sleep Karma), we source the same retail inventory — we do not use pre-production samples or special batches. Buying at full retail is the single most important rule in our process — brands cannot subsidize or select what we test.

2
Hands-on testing

Every product goes through a hands-on multi-tester trial to capture a range of experiences. Top-scoring products get extended runs (5–7 consecutive nights) so we can verify whether early performance holds over time.

3
Lab analysis

When commissioned, we run lab checks to verify ingredient claims, check for contaminants, and validate nutritional profiles. We do not commission a lab check for every product. Results are published when we have them, including the raw lab report when the lab permits.

4
User studies

For categories where individual experience varies (sleep, supplements), we recruit diverse participant panels and report their findings alongside our own.

5
Scoring

Each product receives a score in each of the five criteria above, then a weighted overall score on a 0–10 scale. We publish the scoring breakdown for every product so you can see exactly how we arrived at each rating — no black boxes, no subjective vibes.

6
Ongoing verification

Reviews are updated when formulations change, when new lab data comes in, when brands respond to our findings, or when our internal verification system flags something needs to be re-checked. Every change gets logged on our public corrections page.

How We Handle Products From Brands We Own

Evident Health LLC owns Sleep Karma. It is reviewed on Evident Reviews with the same five-criteria methodology described above, with no scoring exceptions. Sales of Sleep Karma support Evident Reviews’ testing and research. We disclose this ownership on every page where Sleep Karma appears.

Note: Because we own Sleep Karma, treat its ranking as first-party content you should weigh with that conflict in mind — even though the scoring rubric is the same. Read our full ownership disclosure.

Reviews Get Updated

Reviews on Evident Reviews are not static. When formulations change, when new lab data comes in, when brands respond to our findings, or when reader reports flag something inaccurate, we update the review and log the change publicly on our corrections page. If you find something on Evident Reviews that you think is wrong, please contact us.
