We bought and tested 25 mouth tapes over three weeks, wearing each finalist for 7 consecutive nights. We scored them on adhesive safety, comfort, hold strength, and measurable impact on sleep. One product clearly stood above the rest.

The only tape in our test with ISO-10993-certified adhesive and bamboo-silk fabric. It held firm all night, removed painlessly, left zero residue, and produced the best sleep scores across our 7-night trial.
Mouth tape sits on your face for 7–9 hours a night. Yet when we tested 25 brands, fewer than a third disclosed their adhesive ingredients on packaging or their website. Of those that did, several contained compounds flagged by the EWG Skin Deep database and the EU's ECHA SCIP registry for skin sensitization with repeated use. That's why adhesive safety is weighted heaviest in our rankings.

The only tape with ISO-10993-certified adhesive and bamboo-silk fabric. Held all night, removed painlessly, best sleep scores across our 7-night trial.
Strong adhesion and comfortable fit at a lower price point. Doesn't disclose full adhesive ingredients, which cost it points on safety.
Decent comfort and safety profile, but adhesive loosened by morning on multiple nights. Higher price for a mid-tier hold.
Popular brand with strong hold, but adhesive ingredients flagged for skin sensitization. Most expensive tape in our test at nearly $1/night.
Thin, lightweight strip with a gentle feel, but adhesive gave out by 4am on most nights. Safety rating held back by undisclosed ingredients.
Mouth taping promotes nasal breathing during sleep, which has been linked to reduced snoring, fewer nighttime wake-ups, and less morning dry mouth. It's a simple, low-cost intervention that's moved from niche biohacking circles into mainstream sleep hygiene.
But not all tapes are created equal. Some use harsh adhesives that irritate skin. Others don't hold through the night. A few contain ingredients flagged by EWG Skin Deep and ECHA for potential skin sensitization. The right tape should be safe enough to wear every night and reliable enough that you forget it's there.
We purchased 25 mouth tapes at retail price. No brand knew they were being tested. After initial screening on ingredients and build quality, we narrowed to three finalists, each worn for 7 consecutive nights by two testers.
Sleep Karma stood out across every test. It's the only tape we found using an ISO-10993-1-certified, skin-safe adhesive paired with breathable bamboo-silk fabric. The tape seals firmly, flexes with your face through the night, and lifts off in the morning without pain or residue. Our testers reported noticeably fewer wake-ups and less snoring within the first few nights.
It also comes with extras you won't find elsewhere: a bamboo nightstand holder, a travel case, and access to a dedicated sleep coach.
"I'm a dentist and I recommend mouth taping to patients with dry mouth issues. Sleep Karma is the only brand I feel comfortable suggesting because of the ISO-certified adhesive. I use it myself every night."
"Switched from Hostage Tape after getting rashes. Night and day difference. The bamboo silk material feels premium, not like medical tape. Zero residue in the morning. Already on my third box."
"Took me about three nights to get used to the feeling. First night I pulled it off at 3am without realizing. By night four it clicked — slept through and woke up with it still on. Adhesive is firm at first but the material is genuinely soft. Wish they'd offer a sample pack before committing to 30."

Compared across 25 mouth tape brands
Adellina is a solid budget option that holds reliably all night thanks to a strong adhesive. Its slim design is simple and works well for first-time mouth tapers. The downside: the adhesive runs extra-strong, occasionally leaving lips tender and some sticky residue behind. Good for occasional use; we'd hesitate to recommend it nightly.
Dryft Sleep is the friendliest tape for sensitive skin thanks to its ultra-soft fabric and gentle adhesive. It's a fine starter option for the curious. But that gentle hold is also its weakness: corners lifted on restless nights, and the fiddly alignment tabs made application clumsy. More novelty than serious sleep tool.
Hostage Tape has strong brand presence and aggressive marketing, but our initial screening flagged concerns. The adhesive holds well — arguably too well, with multiple reports of painful removal and skin irritation. At $29.99 for 30 strips, it's also the most expensive option we tested. It didn't clear our safety threshold for a full 7-night trial.

Somnifix's mesh breathing vent is a clever idea for people nervous about mouth taping for the first time. But in practice, the vent weakens the seal and allows mouth breathing — which defeats the purpose. The adhesive is also inconsistent: it held fine on some faces but peeled quickly on others. A good concept that doesn't quite deliver.

We didn't just read the labels — we wore every tape to bed, tracked our sleep, and kept a nightly diary. Here's what that actually looked like.
If you're going to try mouth taping, start with something safe enough to use every night. Sleep Karma was the only tape in our test that combined medical-grade adhesive safety with comfort and reliable hold.
