What does the science actually say about mouth taping?
Answered by Evident Team· 2 months ago
The direct evidence on mouth taping specifically is still limited — most published studies are small (under 50 participants). However, the underlying science on nasal vs. mouth breathing is robust. Nasal breathing is associated with better oxygen absorption (due to nitric oxide), improved CO2 tolerance, reduced snoring, and parasympathetic nervous system activation. What's lacking is large-scale, controlled data on mouth taping as an intervention — which is exactly why we're running the Evident Sleep Study with 500+ participants and objective wearable data. We want to help fill that evidence gap.
