PapMD® Mouth Tape

A 100% transparent review.

PapMD® is a smaller brand, specializing in mouth tapes for CPAP machines. We'd heard a lot about PapMD®. But does it truly deliver on its promises? We put it to the test to find out.
PapMD was not the best tape we found.

MOUTH TAPE REVIEW - Rank #6 OUT OF 25
Verdict: Not the best found

PapMD® Mouth Tape

PAP MD

We loved the size and shape of the PapMD mouth tape, but found it a bit too strong for our liking. Sometimes left adhesive residue behind, and a little skin irriation. Also, when we reached out to PapMD to clarify the composition of their adhesive, they weren't very forthcoming. Adhesive safety is paramount with mouth tape, so despite a solid form factor, we couldn't recommend PapMD tape too highly. PapMD was not the best tape we found.

What our Research showed

keyboard_arrow_down

PapMD® markets its tape as a CPAP-friendly, affordable, well-shaped mouth taping solution, yet the reality fell a little short in key areas. In our trials PapMD®'s strip's extra-strong adhesive delivered a rock-solid seal, but it was so tenacious that removal often left skin irritation, sticky residue, and sore lips. More worrying, the company wouldn’t confirm what the adhesive or fabric are actually made of, refusing to verify that it’s non-toxic—a big red flag for something that stays on your face all night. Although PapMD® landed 6th out of 25 products and earns points for its generous size, reliable hold, and low nightly cost (~$0.74), the combination of aggressive stickiness and poor transparency kept it out of our top recommendations.

Pros and Cons

keyboard_arrow_down

Pros:

  • Great size and shape

  • Designed to work well with CPAP machines

  • Reliably strong hold strength

  • Solid mid-market price point

Cons:

  • PapMD® did not verify the contents or safety of their adhesive

  • Strong adhesive caused discomfort and sore lips upon removal

  • Often leave residue on the skin

The bottom line on PapMD®

It's an OK tape, but there are better available. PapMD’s generous size and budget-friendly price make it tempting, and its ultra-strong adhesive certainly keeps lips sealed all night. But that same stickiness can be brutal on removal: irritated skin, sore lips, and stubborn residue were common in our tests. Worse, the brand wouldn’t verify that its adhesive or fabric are non-toxic, leaving big unanswered questions about safety. If you’re just starting with mouth taping or value full ingredient transparency, we’d steer you toward gentler, better-disclosed options first.

WHAT THE SCIENCE SAYS

Does mouth taping actually  work?

Mouth taping shows genuine promise for certain sleep-related benefits, especially reducing snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but evidence from large-scale clinical trial is still on the limited side. A few smaller clinical studies have been conducted, and many of their results do support core mouth taping claims. In short: Initial research supports mouth taping benefits (including, improving sleep, reducing snoring, reducing sleep apnea-related wake ups, etc.)

What we love

keyboard_arrow_down

After thoroughly testing 23 different mouth tapes, Sleep Karma stands out in every way. First, the materials are best-in-class: most importantly, the adhesive is certified non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and skin-safe, meeting ISO-10993-1 biocompatibility standards. The fabric itself is ultra-premium organic bamboo silk — breathable, buttery-soft, and a dream to wear overnight. We also love the performance: the tape stays firmly in place all night, but peels off easily and gently in the morning (without leaving any yucky residue on your lips). The size and shape are another win — the full-coverage design keeps the mouth securely closed (and for beginners, they also offer "slim strips" which go vertically across the lips). Sleep Karma goes above and beyond by including monthly free gifts, such as a stunning bamboo night stand and bamboo travel case (with a subscription) and 24/7 access to a team of sleep coaches. All of this comes at a price that's right in line with most competitors — around $0.83 per night for dramatically better sleep.
