The Best Mouth Tape for Better Sleep? We Tried 25, These Are the Top 3 That Actually Work

By Alec & Michael | Updated May 17th 2025
Green Powders Compared

Mouth taping isn’t a fringe wellness trend anymore. It’s gone mainstream, and for good reason: promoting nasal breathing at night has been shown to improve sleep quality, reduce snoring, and eliminate dry mouth. But while the benefits are real, not all mouth tapes are.

Some products contain harsh adhesives that can irritate skin, or worse. We found a few that used ingredients flagged by safety databases for potential toxicity. This isn’t just about sleep quality; it’s about what you’re putting on your face night after night.

We tested 25 of the most popular mouth tapes on the market to find out which actually hold up, literally and figuratively. After three weeks of testing, only three made our cut.

How we chose the best mouth tape
IS THE ADHESIVE SAFE?

A safe mouth tape uses non-toxic, hypoallergenic adhesives to prevent irritation while ensuring a secure hold. Breathable fabrics like cotton or silk allow airflow, reducing moisture buildup and skin discomfort.

SIZE, SHAPE & COMFORT

Mouth tape should be the right size & shape, and reliably stay put during a night of tossing and turning. We looked for a tape with a secure hold, but that wasn’t horrendous to remove in the morning.

PRICE & ADDED BENEFITS

Mouth tape prices vary to some extent and some brands also include free added extras like night stands, travel cases, and access to dedicated sleep coaches.

IMPACT ON SLEEP

We tested each of our three finalist mouth tapes for 7 nights each, evaluating them across seven factors of comfort, hold strength, and impact on sleep.

Our Top Mouth Tapes For Sleeping
Best Overall
Our rating:
4.9
Sleep Karma Mouth Tape (Organic)
Key Details:
Sleep Karma topped our 25-brand trial thanks to its ISO-10993-1-certified, skin-safe adhesive and airy bamboo-silk fabric that seals securely yet lifts off pain-free. It’s breathable, comes with a bamboo stand, travel case, and round-the-clock coach support, all for about $0.83 a night.
Our rating:
4.1
Adellina Mouth Tape
Key Details:
Adellina is an affordable pick that holds firm all night with its slim, skin-safe design. However, the adhesive runs extra-strong and can leave residue, so it’s better for short stints than nightly use.
Our rating:
3.3
Dryft Sleep Tape
Key Details:
Dryft Sleep is soft, breathable, and kind to skin, but largely still feels more novelty than serious aid thanks to its relatively weak hold, fiddly alignment, and occasional sticky residue.

Sleep Karma Mouth Tape stood out across every test: firm seal, gentle removal, breathable design, and zero irritation—even for sensitive skin types. Most importantly, it was one of the only tapes we found that uses clean, skin-safe ingredients—free from harmful plastics, synthetic fragrances, and industrial-grade adhesives.

It is made with a non-toxic, hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive that holds firm overnight without budging, leaves zero residue in the morning, and is formulated entirely without synthetic chemicals or toxic adhesives.

Most of all, Sleep Karma just felt better. It was more comfortable than others we tested, with a soft-touch fabric that flexes with your face. After using it, our testers reported less snoring, fewer middle-of-the-night wakeups, and more refreshed mornings.

Pros: It holds firm overnight without budging, is made with hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive, leaves zero residue in the morning, and is formulated without synthetic chemicals or toxic adhesives. Cons: It is only available online, and its price point sits at a medium level relative to the rest of the market.

2. Adellina —a decent performer. Maybe a little too sticky, but solid for occasional use.

Adellina came 2nd place in our 25-product review, scoring points for its strong overnight hold, simple design, and noticeable impact on sleep quality. It’s a no-frills tape that does the job—especially if you’re taping for the first time and want something affordable to try.

Unlike the gentle but firm adhesive we found on Sleep Karma, Adellina's adhesive was on the strong side, leaving lips a little tender and some sticky residue behind. While the narrower shape didn’t fully seal the mouth as confidently as larger designs, it still promoted solid nasal breathing. Adellina is a good enough tape for occasional use.

3. Dryft Sleep Tape — comfy and fun, but the hold slips on restless nights.

Our rating:

Dryft Sleep Tape
$26.99
Dryft Sleep is soft, breathable, and kind to skin, but largely still feels more novelty than serious aid thanks to its relatively weak hold, fiddly alignment, and occasional sticky residue.

Photos from my 7-Day sleep trial of Dryft. Not a fan of the impractical shape.

Dryft Sleep came third in our 25-product review, earning points for its ultra-soft, breathable fabric that feels kind even on sensitive skin. Its playful, novelty-leaning design is portable and eye-catching, yet the fiddly alignment tabs make nightly application a bit clumsy. We much preferred Sleep Karma's simple, strong and large format that felt snug and secure all night. Dryft Sleep's gentle adhesive is merciful on lips, but that light hold often lets corners lift during restless nights, undercutting a full seal and sometimes leaving a faint tacky film by morning. Dryft is a friendly starter option for the curious mouth-taping newbie, but anyone chasing rock-solid nasal breathing all night will want a sturdier strip.
